The crowd responded just as you imagine listeners to early Zeppelin did – loudly and rowdily responsive, as if it knew it was hearing something not only good, but important. The very good “Flower Power” was the closest things to what a new Zeppelin song might sound like, with its keyboards mixed in.Īnd “Mountain of the Sun,” an offering of ballsy melodic rock, was among the songs that showed its lyrics are far above most of what’s out there today – especially in rock. One of the night’s best songs, “You’re The One,” added an acoustic guitar element, with Josh Kiszka’s voice floating and soaring - that recalled the metal/folk merger of “Led Zeppelin III” or “Led Zeppelin IV.” And on “Edge of Darkness” – one of those songs with especially mystical lyrics - Kiszka even struck Plant poses as Jake Kiszka played his Page-like runs, even behind his head at one point. “Black Smoke Rising,” the title track to the group’s new EP, was a “Physical Graffiti”-era romp that even included Plant-style “Ah, ah, ah’s” in the singing. ![]()
